Summary of the Position:

The Associate Director, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting will have oversight over SEC reporting and technical accounting matters. This position will be located in Gaithersburg, MD and reports to the Senior Director of SEC Reporting, Accounting Policy and SOX Compliance.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

SEC Reporting

  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of the preparation, tie-out and review of the quarterly (10-Q) and annual (10-K) filings with the SEC, as well as other required filings on Form 8-K, S-8, Proxy, etc.
  • Manage the SEC filing review process for both internal and external reviewers including the auditor, internal/external legal counsel, senior management, and others, as necessary. Maintain global internal/external reporting calendar and related checklists to support all SEC filings.

Technical Accounting

  • Provide technical support on business matters to ensure proper accounting treatment and assist with establishing global financial policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Maintain visibility of emerging new accounting standards and provide guidance on their adoption by the Company and incorporate into reporting to ensure new U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements are met.
  • Manage global oversight of goodwill, intangible and long-lived assets and the related impairment review process.
  • Manage technical accounting for a range of activities including revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, leases including embedded leases, embedded derivatives, cloud computing arrangements, segment reporting and global consolidation of legal entities including statutory GAAP to U.S. GAAP adjustments.
  • Assist with the design and operation of SEC reporting and technical accounting related internal controls and SOX 404 compliance activities.
  • Support ad hoc projects, including accounting for potential strategic transactions and Finance department initiatives.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA or BS degree in Finance or Accounting, Master’s degree and CPA required.
  • 7+ years finance experience including 5+ years with a Big 4 Audit Firm.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform technical accounting research, write effective position papers, and communicate appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements for U.S publicly traded companies.  IFRS knowledge a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in drafting financial statements and related disclosures. Working knowledge of Workiva a plus.

  • Strong leadership, problem solving, and communication skills.  Ability to influence cross functional teams and mentor and build a team of financial professionals.
  • Financial system experience and passionate about business excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Experience working in global high growth companies as plus.
