Summary of the Position:

This role is a strategic leadership position within the APAC Leadership Team that will oversee and be accountable for the APAC market access, pricing and reimbursement strategies for the Novavax vaccine pipeline and will report to the GM APAC. This role has a dotted line reporting to VP, Global Market Access.  This leader will provide thoughtful and  strategic market access leadership, expertly representing market access within APAC, building strong relationships and effective collaboration with the cross functional team in APAC and at Global HQ. In doing so, this role will help to shape key strategic decisions, such as but not limited to tendering and direct purchase strategies, Clinical Development and Integrated Evidence Generation Plans, to ensure that strategic plans fully meet the needs of market access in key countries. This role will take the lead in development of value propositions and deliver timely, optimal reimbursement in a highly challenging environment across diverse regions with complex and differing needs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Directs the activities of multiple functional areas – leading strategic planning and implementation of the markets’ access strategies, i.e., payer value generation and tender and/or direct purchase strategies, working in cross-functional partnership with marketing, government/policy and medical affairs experts to create wholistic strategies.
  • Guides direct report managers to map external payer and funder environment and communicate to internal stakeholders and senior management relevant information regarding the current and future reimbursement landscape of key markets.
  • Evaluates threats and opportunities in key APAC markets rising out of legislation, policies and regulation from WHO, MOH/government and/or private payers as well as competitive market access moves that can impact access of Novavax' products and pipeline and proactively develop strategies and plans to address the evolving reimbursement environment.
  • Co leads and partners with Real World Evidence to generate evidence planning to expand reimbursement to adjacent patient segments and new markets; aligning with RWE and Medical Affairs on publication strategy of all value and access data.
  • Leads and guides its market access team in integrating pricing, payer research, health economic and epidemiology information to develop the optimal value strategy for Brand X.
  • Directs and guides Support Areas/Affiliates in addressing market access, price and reimbursement challenges.
  • Hire, supervise, and develop direct reports as the business in Asia Pac scales up.
  • Coach/player mindset to lead a team to ensure all strategies and tactics are well thought through and aligned to overarching brand strategy.
  • Take budgetary responsibility for defining and managing the market access discretionary budgets, ensuring that spending is managed effectively throughout the year and to plan.

Minimum Requirements:

Critical must have:

  • Deep familiarity with APAC markets’ reimbursement processes and overall access and policy environment impacting vaccines commercialization in both governments’ tenders and retail markets is most desirable. Or a demonstrated/proven track record in securing reimbursement and optimal value access in the APAC vaccines markets

The candidate should have:

  • A BS/BA degree with 15+ years of industry experience; OR
  • A Masters’ Degree in a relevant discipline M.Sc. in Epidemiology, Health Economics, Public Health or Health Policy) with 12+ years of industry experience; OR
  • A PhD Degree in a relevant discipling e.g. Ph.D in Epidemiology, Health Economics, Public Health or Health Policy or a MD with 12+ years of industry experience; AND
  • 7+ years of successful leadership experience in a similar role in the healthcare industry (pharma and/or vaccines); leading a high performing team with a focus in Epidemiology, Health Economics, Payer Access is required.
  • Understanding and/or experience of the reimbursement environment for key international markets is required.
  • Deep understanding of Health Economics, meta-analyses, retrospective and prospective data generation activities, clinical trial methodologies, relative effectiveness and all other ingredients of an optimal value proposition and professional HTA or price & reimbursement submissions are required.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to successfully work across functional and geographic boundaries, preferably across multiple countries/market types/access models, is required.
  • Deep appreciation of science and ability to translate scientific information into strategy is required.
  • An ability to manage multiple demands and priorities on time, influence without authority, gain alignment and drive decision making is required.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a strong track record of producing results in a matrix-based environment are required.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to think strategically is required.

Travel: Approximately 40-50 % of the time
